The objective of this essay is to describe and analyze the main trends and transformations
in the Brazilian economy in the period following the Second World War. The first
part briefly outlines the basic antecedents of Brazilian economic growth in recent decades, as
well as the main structural problems that are present today. It also suggests the fundamental
characteristics that result from the presence of two key players in the Brazilian economic
scenario: the State and transnational corporations. The Second Part describes the major cycles
observed in the post-war period, analyzing the factors and conditions that explain the
main turning points or phases. The last section outlines the main characteristics of the recent
evolution of the Brazilian economy, as well as the conditions for an alternative development
strategy. This is followed by a second part in the next issue.

The objective of this article is to attempt to identify, measure, and speculate
about agriculture that is changing its techno-economic basis and altering the corresponding
social structure. It is fundamentally about thinking about agriculture that is becoming
industrialized. The idea that we wish to sustain is that the current industrialization of the
Brazilian countryside is a new phenomenon and that industrialized agriculture sets the direction
for the future of all national agriculture. The main hypothesis is that as the phenomena
and particular processes of agricultural industrialization will become general processes.

A characteristic institution of contemporary capitalism, public enterprises continue
to be less studied than other similar economic agents. This work has the goal of understanding
if public enterprises can be a tool of economic policy and be utilized in a strategy
for economic growth. Different studies of why public enterprises came to be are discussed to
then debate the differences in managing these and private enterprises. Finally, the public enterprises
as tools for growth as discussed.
